Youth Rites of Passage Summit II

Event Date: Apr 25 2013 - Apr 28 2013

A Gathering of the Tribe (by invitation)
“If you want to go quickly, go alone.  If you want to go far, go together.”
~African proverb
“The time of the lone wolf is over. Gather yourselves! We are the ones that we’ve been waiting for.” ~Hopi Prophecy

More than ever before, our world is in need of healthy rites of passage for today’s young people transitioning into adulthood. Every day we’re bombarded with new headlines reminding us how youth are not being “initiated” and ritually welcomed into community.  Join us for a special gathering of the youth rites of passage community to connect, collaborate, and expand our collective impact to address the urgent need for the world to wake up to this crisis and to this opportunity to make a difference.

WHAT  -  Through a mix of council, TED-style talks, breakout sessions, ritual, ceremony, performance, and celebration, this gathering will allow participants to engage in:

Community Building & Networking – Cultivating relationships with dynamic leaders and practitioners within the field of youth rites of passage, and implementing a strategy for visitation of different programs and processes.

Learning & Conversation – Sharing best practices, knowledge, and resources, and engaging in rich conversations pertaining to the work and field.

Collaboration & Co-Creation – Supporting individual and group collaboration, and working to further develop the field of youth rites of passage.

Transformation & Renewal – Engaging in transformative processes and personal renewal so we can continue to serve our youth and communities.

Honoring & Acknowledgment – Each of us is part of a lineage.  We want to acknowledge our own individual mentors who brought us on this path as well as the elders and path makers in the field of modern day ROP as a whole.

Two specific projects that will be front & center at this convening:
Rites of Passage Film – Frederick is making what he hopes will be the definitive film on the need for teen initiations.  The film trailer is here .   The film is designed to be only one small part of a greater movement to raise awareness and spur teen initiations.   We’ll discuss what part each of us can play in bringing this project to fruition and to tens of thousands of eventual end-users.

Youth Rites of Passage Umbrella Org
– Founding a support structure for all ROP organizations to work on standards and accreditation, funding, info dissemination, a clearinghouse website(s), and more.

COST –
sliding scale of $200-$350 (includes food); lodging is extra and depends on options detailed below.

We do not yet have the ability to provide scholarships for participants, though it is our intention to raise funds to support those in need. Please apply ASAP and even better, help us to raise the funds by sharing this and asking your community for support.
